Previously, we heard that Sony was planning on bringing new tablets after its Tablet P and Tablet S. Now, we have received first piece of real info on the upcoming Sony tablet. A German website named Mobiflip was behind it and the report also includes some internal slides from Sony. All these slides suggest that Sony is working on a Xperia Tablet that is going to be considerably lighter, thinner and more powerful than the previous Sony tablets.

Now, according to these slides, this new tablet will simply be called Sony Xperia Tablet. Now, the further specs include a quad core Tegra 3 CPU under the hood, and it might run on the Android 4.0 ICS or later version of Android. The Xperia tablet will be available in 16, 32 and 64GB flavors based on storage and it will also feature 3G connectivity. Under the hood, it will also be bringing a 6000 mAh battery which will be powerful enough to support 10 hours of WiFi use without any trouble. According to the same slides, we have also confirmed that this tablet will be only 8.8mm thick and it will be made using an aluminum shell that will allow it to be 42% thinner than the Tablet S. As you can see in the image above, Sony will also be bringing a keyboard cover along with it, now you might have noticed that this cover is looking very similar to the one displayed by Microsoft on its Surface tablet.

Well, you have to keep in mind that the Keyboard cover made by Sony is a little different. As you can see, users will be able to wrap this cover around the entire tablet and the folding placed at the back will also be used as the kickstand for the device. Well, surprisingly, the slides have also shown the prices of the device, as the keyboard cover will come with a price tag of $99.99. On the other hand, the Xperia Tablet with 16GB storage will cost around $449.99, 32GB one will cost $549.99 and the 64GB variant will come with a price tag of $649. Now, you can easily see that each of these models have the price tags $50 less than that of the new iPad. Last but not the least, the display screen will be 9.4 inch of the size and it will be featuring 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Sadly, we weren’t able to get the release date for the device, but we are hoping it to arrive somewhere near the holiday season this year or the early next year.

Well, according to a recent FCC by filing by Sony, it appears like the Japanese manufacturer is developing a new tablet that will be released not far from now. According to the filing, the device comes with a model name SGPT1211 and it also features an infrared transmitter. You can see both these information on the drawing of the tablet shown below. Well, that’s all we know about this mysterious upcoming tablet from Sony at the moment. So, we can say that its not much and we will have to wait for some other details.

Now, some people are suggesting that this new tablet might be a successor to company’s existing Sony tablet S. Sony Tablet S is a 9.4 inch tablet released by the company last year. Now, we think that these claims might be correct because the Tablet S also had a very similar model name which was SGPT112. Additionally, we also know that the Tablet S also comes with an infrared blaster, while this newly discovered device also features one.

Well, when we talk in reality, we don’t even know whether it is an Android device or not. There is a chance that it will be a Windows based tablet but that looks pretty early to us. So, it is in fact an Android device and it will be featuring an infrared blaster just like the Tablet S.

That’s all we know about this upcoming tablet at the moment. There is also possibility that this tablet will have some different kind of form factor instead of the traditional one, most likely like an folding contraption like design just like Sony Tablet P but that is mere speculation. So, what do you really think about this new upcoming tablet from Sony and what are expecting it to bring? Please mention your comments in the box below and stay tuned for more info.

As you might remember, back in April this year Sony’s Tablet S became one the first Honeycomb tablets to receive an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. Now, Tablet S is one of the two tablets released by Sony and it is more traditional one as well. Tablet P on the other hand is a clamshell like designed tablet with dual display screens and it received the ICS update a month later than the Tablet S. Now, Sony has decided to roll out the latest, Android 4.0.3 update for the two tablets as well. It means that Tablet S as well as the unconventional clamshell like Tablet P will also be getting this latest ICS update but only in the selected markets.

Sony has further stated that this new Android 4.0.3 update will be coming with a brand new UI for the tablets. It will also allow users to create new folders using drop and drag gestures which is the similar gesture technique that was used in HP’s dead webOS. If you are done using a specific app and it is still open on your screen, you will be able to close by swiping them off the screen. It will clearly save a lot of system memory and the tablet will run smooth. The web browser is also improved and now it will allow users to toggle between desktop and mobile mode and you will also be able to save web pages for offline viewing or reading. There are also some features that will allow you to keep tabs and consume reasonably your data package.

Sony has also added the ability to store and access data from a full sized SD card in both tablets through this new update. There will be a small apps update that will keep the most used functions on the top of the display. There will be an always on top launcher icon placed on the screen that will allow you to use certain functions like Browser, Remote control and calculator very quickly. It means that you will be able to access all those functions quickly while doing any thing else at the same time. The camera app will also get some updates with the help of the 4.0.3 update. These new features for camera include improved editing as well as a wider selection of Slideshow templates that will allow you to go through your images in a more fun way.

When you will receive the Android 4.0.3 update on your Sony tablet, you will be asked to install it or not. Additionally, you will also be getting a free copy of the game title Super Stardust which is available at the Play station store right now.

If you are tech fan, then know how important these big conferences are and we wait for events like CES and MWC to bring us some new goodies. But sometimes, some less mobile oriented meetings also offer major technological breakthroughs. Just take the example of the Society for information Display (SID) who held their Display Week of the year last week. At that expo event, most of the major consumer electronic companies were displaying their latest display technologies. Well, Sony had a very interesting innovation to offer, it was a new flexible 9.9 inch OLED display which might come in the future tablets.

If you are a TV fan then you would know that Sony was the first company to introduce OLED TV sets in the market but the prices were very high at the moment. In addition to that the production was also very limited because there were very few people who bought an 11 inch TV set for around $2500. But after that Samsung and LG revolutionized the industry by shipping OLED displays in mass quantity. Well, when we talk about the resolution of this flexible tablet sized display from Sony, it is not that good because it comes with 960 x 540 pixels resolution. So, this display will be having a pixel density of 111 ppi.

But the special aspect of this display is that Sony has used common glass substrate based manufacturing process to make it and it is the same manufacturing process that is used for other displays but glass is removed at the end of this one. It means that Sony will be using a common manufacturing process for both types of displays which will solve so many major problems including price and volume of the display units.

Now, as Sony works on this techniques and makes progress, we are expecting that the future displays will have higher screen resolutions. After that they will be fixed with a flexible tablet panel and manufactured at a large scale. It also means that just like other OLED panels, these will also offer good contrast and also they will consume less power than the LCDs and AMOLED displays. So, we will be glad to see some flexible future products.

Well, if you are an Android device owner, I am sure that you are waiting anxiously for hearing from your manufacturer or carrier to roll out Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for your device. Now, all they need is a release date for their ICS update. At this time, we have heard that Samsung is currently working on the development of updates for some T-Mobile Android device but we cannot say an update is confirmed until it is officially announced by the manufacturer and the carrier.

Of course it does not look good when a manufacturer or carrier announced an update for a device but does not release it for some reasons. Similar thing was done by Sony when the manufacturer announced that both its tablet including Tablet S and Tablet P will be getting Android ICS update by the end of April. But as you already know that, only Tablet S received the ICS update in time and Tablet P was left by Sony and they did not even sent out a statement to explain the delay or cancellation of the update for Tablet P until now. Today, Sony has sent out a statement that says that Tablet P owners will be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on May 24th.

Sony has said that Tablet P will be getting the same ICS update package as the Tablet S that will include the popular feature of Small Apps. In that feature you will be getting browser window, calculator, remote control and similar apps. In this ICS update for Tablet P you will be getting windowed multitasking features. So, it means that in next week you will be getting ICS on your Sony Tablet P.

As you might remember that when ICS update was released for Tablet S right on the same time when it was released in Japan. So, we are expecting that similarly Tablet P will be getting simultaneous update in Japan and rest of the world. Stay tuned for more on this.

If you are a current Tablet S user then we have a great news for you, as you are finally getting your share of the software update. Of course it is not a typical bug fix update but this time this Sony PlayStation certified tablet is getting the one and only, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

We all know that all Sony tablet users had to wait so much for this update, but now they will be able to enjoy the bountiful features included in the most up to date version of Google’s operating system. It is very easy to setup, first of all you will be receiving a notification on your tablet after that you can download it over Wi Fi. You will be very interested to know that this tablet update brings many new and exciting additions that will definitely increase this tablet’s worth. These new features include the usual set of performance improvements, single motion panoramic photo mode, direct access to the SD card, an enhanced version of the locked screen and many other cool features.

Well, it seems like Sony is planning on celebrating the arrival of the Ice Cream Sandwich update and that is the reason why Sony is giving a $50 mail in rebate with the purchase of the Tablet S. It means that now you will be getting the 16GB variant of Sony Tablet S for only $349, which makes it pretty decent tablet if you consider all the other options available in the market.

At this time, Sony has only two Android tablets on the market, Tablet P and S, but now it seems like Sony might be preparing something new to succeed these not so well selling slates. We have received a leaked benchmark result from NenaMark, which mentions the name of a Sony V150 tablet. This mystery tablet packs a quad core Tegra 3 CPU and it runs on Android 4.0.

So, according to the report, this mysterious tablet from Sony will be powered by a 1.4 GHz quad core processor under the hood and running on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. Additionally, we have found out that the display board of this tablet has the same size as the one placed in Tablet S. The screen size was found out through the unusual screen resolution of the device, that is 1280 x 752 pixels. This particular benchmark result shows that this tablet has scored 59.70 and that’s it we have nothing else on this slate. All we can say is that the V150 might a codename for a brand new tablet that is under development at Sony.

So, if we assume that this Tegra 3 tablet is real, then we are really sure that it will be PlayStation certified as well and it is also expected to bring an original design because Sony usually brings new products with unique looks. We will keep you updated about this as soon as we get some more info on it. So, stay tuned.

Undoubtedly, multi touch has become one of the most sought after features on touch based devices in the recent times. Well, it seems the larger the size of screen, the higher the demand for the multi touch gestures because users like to take advantage of increased display space with as many gestures as possible.

XDA developers forum is most knowledgeable place on web related to Android based modding and development and now they have brought another gem. This is a new app developed by XDA’s forum member, stupididea, and it is named as Gesture Control. It brings great new features, but at this time the app is still in beta stage.

Currently, there are many custom launchers that offer multi touch gestures as well as there are many .APK files which allow android users to add new functions to the menu button. Well, Gesture Control on the other hand is another root level app which can be installed as an .APK file. Once you have installed Gesture Controls on your Android tablet, you will be able to add so many multi touch gestures than ever previously possible to perform any type of basic tasks.

XDA forums, has mentioned following supported gestures:

Back:
Swipe 2 fingers from top downward

Home:
pinch 3-4 fingers

Show/Hide status bar:
Swipe 2 fingers from bottom upward

At this time, you will notice that the list is looking a little small but as I mentioned above, the Gesture Control app is currently at beta stage. So, we are expecting that it will bring more features as well as more gestures in the future updates. You can also suggest some commands and gestures of your choice by heading over to the official XDA thread.

Unfortunately, Ice Cream Sandwich users cannot be able to run this app because Gesture Control is not supporting ICS yet, but the developer has promised that this issue will be resolved as soon as possible.

Gesture Control is a free of charge app but keep in mind that it will only run on a rooted device. You can get further information, help and discussion at the original thread at XDA forums.

You might remember that Sony entered the tablet business last year by introducing two Android slates into the market. One of those tablet was Sony Tablet S which looks like an ordinary slate while the other one named as Sony Tablet P is a dual screen device had clam shell like design very similar to that of the Kyocera Echo. After that, now, Sony is looking quite satisfied with their tablets and now the company is planning to release new models in the near future.

The President of Sony Electronics, Phil Molyneux was talking to PCMag when he said that the sales of Tablet S have met the company’s expectations completely. He also said that these Tablet S and Tablet P are company’s first generation Android tablet, which means that Sony is definitely planning to introduce second generation models as well.

You might say that any of these two Sony tablets were not able to generate much hype in the US but Sony Tablet S has been getting much popularity in some other markets like UK. A little while ago, Sony launched Tablet P on AT&T, so, we have to wait a little more to see how it will perform in terms of sales.

That’s the news, so, what do you think about Sony’s next generation Android slates? Do you think that Sony should bring more devices having different form factors like Tablet P and bring some innovation in the saturated industry? On the other hand, we also think that Sony should bring a PlayStation certified tablet which is heavily focused on gaming, that slate will get so much success among die hard gamers around the world. Please mention you suggestions in the comments box below..

All the credit goes to a hacker and developer named as Dan Rosenberg who has developed the root access for Sony Tablet S. Rosenberg was successful in hacking into the device and has made a package which can be easily used to root access the Sony tablet.

It is very simple process and you will need to put your Tablet S into USB debugging mode and run a Windows batch file on it. You can get the detailed instructions on getting the root access right from XDA Developer forums. Obviously, you will have to run this all process on your own risk but still we have received a lot of reports proving its authenticity. On the other hand, it is possible that any new OTA update from Sony will break the root, so you have to be careful while installing the new software updates on your device after rooting.
