All this is a mere speculation yet, but we are definitely waiting to see what happens once these devices are released. Well, this HP prototype slate was developed to compete with the original Apple iPad that was about to be launched at the time. Microsoft was bringing many touch related features to its Windows platform because they knew that touch computing will be playing an important part in the near future. Apparently, the prototype made by HP was pretty decent but the end product was not that good. HP was unable to get all those components in the bulk quantity and at that time Windows was not that optimized for touch based experience either.

So, the end product was not that slim, and the Windows running Intel processor was very hot and it required an active fan cooling. Now, that fan was very loud and it really did not match with the silent computing concept brought to reality by smartphones and the iPad. The screen on the tablet was not that sensitive and it was unable to run smoothly with the Microsoft Windows’ touch controls.

So overall the tablet was a big failure and at that time the market of Windows Mobile was also falling. That is the reason why Microsoft started to revamp its entire mobile platform. The development of Windows 8 started eventually, and Windows 8 focuses on mobile platform as well as the PCs. Microsoft also learned another lesson at that time, they found out that their OEM partners are not capable of investing big money to develop a quality product that will be a better counterpart to Apple’s iPad.

After revamping its mobile OS platforms including Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone, Microsoft took another big step enter the hardware market. On the other hand, HP was not happy with Microsoft because they were not making their Windows 7 better and Windows Phone 7 was also delayed so much and that is why they moved to Palm OS and freed themselves from relying on Microsoft. Now, it seems like HP wants to get back into the tablet game, as Hewlett Packard is planning on bringing a new tablet. This time, HP is not going to use its own webOS and instead of that, HP is going to bring a Windows 8 tablet. We all know that Windows 8 is one of the most talked about software of this year and it will be arriving later this year. Of course HP’s own WebOS  was not able to get much popularity among the consumers but this time HP returns with the highly anticipated OS of the year to try its luck once again in the tablet business.

HP’s CEO, Meg Whitman who shut down the project last year has now restarted the production of the tablets. According to Whitman, HP is once again going to capitalize on extraordinary growth in tablet sales. Of course they have considered the tough competition in tablet market, as Apple iPad is maintaining its dominance in the market at the moment.

Well, we did not get much details about this upcoming tablet but right now all we can say is that this tablet will be arriving around the Holiday season, obviously after the release of Windows 8 OS, which will be arriving at the beginning of winter.

In addition to that, HP is also planning to merge its printing  and PC departments and this merger is valued at $65 billion and it will also result into more centralized sales and marketing teams that will make HP more efficient. HP is also planning on continuing focus on its ultrabooks and thinner notebooks in its Envy lineup.

Obviously, the HP Slate 8 will be running on the touch version of Windows 8 Professional and it will be one of the tablets from HP’s Elite series of slates which are the highest level of consumer products. This tablet will have enhanced security features including HP ProtectTools, TPM Security and support for Computrace which will prove very helpful when you lose your tablet. Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 platform will have support for the capcitive pen input and the HP Slate 8’s display will be ready to work outdoors as well. The HP Slate 8 running on Win 8 will be offering battery life of 8-10 hours and it will weigh around 0.68 kg.

In addition to that, the HP Slate 8 will be 9.2mm thin and the body will be made up of aluminum. As you can see the design of the HP tablets looks similar to that of the HTC Jestream tablet which is pretty  amazing as the design of the HTC tablet was original. Well, we are anxiously waiting when HP is going to announce the slate 8 officially to the public. We are hoping that this product would not remain a mere prototype and it should see the light of the day very soon. Of course other manufacturers will also be bringing new Windows 8 tablets by the end of this year, all we need to do now is just wait and watch.

These images have been provided by the FCC, they tore the down this device and it looks like a 7 inch version of the original TouchPad. Previously, TouchPad Go was supposed to hit the shelves in the end of 2011 and it even got FCC approval back in October last year. But right after that, HP decided to shut down the webOS area and it cancelled its phones and tablets releases. So, the GO tablet never reached the public at all. We also saw Samsung SDRAM, SanDish flash memory and some other chips as well, which cannot be recognized right now due to all the blurriness here. Of course there is also a WLAN card as well as a Broadcom transceiver and we also saw a rear 5MP camera and a 1.3 MP front camera as well. So, at this time, we don’t know when it will go public again, but HP clearly has no intentions of doing so.

Well, if you live near the Best Buy Store in Santee, California, then you might be interested in knowing that the retail store is offering 32GB HP TouchPad for sale. And it looks like the device is also in stock right now, we don’t know how they managed to get their hands on this discontinued tablet, but that is not the point here. The most interesting about this is the price at which Best Buy is selling this tablet.

As you can see in the image posted above, Best Buy is asking the full $599.99 retail price for a 32 GB HP TouchPad. But we all know that it is not right and that is the reason why no one is going to buy this tablet. In my opinion, someone has made an error somewhere because the device has been tagged as a “new tablet”. That’s not the case because we already know that the device was introduced last year at that retail price and now the actual worth has fallen a lot.

Obviously, we can see that there is some kind of mix up at the store level, or maybe some employee is misinformed. In any case, we are sure that the officials will fix this price issue and if you are there at the time of price drop, you will be surely lucky to get your hands on a HP TouchPad model.

You might not be aware of the nightly builds, it basically means that with these builds CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 6 on your TouchPad will be able to sync itself with the main development section of CM9 for all the existing devices. It means that your HP TouchPad will be getting the latest updates and bug fixes automatically. It means that every night if a new version is released, you will be getting it. This latest development came right from Teamwin, they have also set up a Twitter account on which they will push the alerts and download links for all the vital build releases.

Of course, you should remember that these are unofficial builds and might include some issues and all. At this time, users are still waiting for some major features like video playback and camera support are yet to arrive in the final CyanogenMod 9 build for HP TouchPad.
