Apple To Launch An 8GB iPad 2 Alongside The iPad 3 Next Week!
DigiTimes looks like to be on a roll now as we have another report from them regarding the next Apple iPad. As you already know that DigiTimes reports are not always reliable and you cannot tell how authentic they are.
This time, the latest report claims that Apple is planning to launch a new 8GB version of iPad 2 next week alongside the iPad 3. We are assuming that this decrease in memory storage will reduce the cost of the device and make it affordable for the low end consumers as well as differentiating it with the latest offering the iPad 3.
You can see that Apple has been using the similar strategic pattern for the last several generations of the iPhone, when a new iPhone is released the company discontinues the production of the previous standard 16 GB and 32 GB models of the device and adds an 8GB model to be used as the a low end option for the public.
Well, that’s not it, the report further states that Apple is also going to introduce the 16 GB and 32 GB models of the iPad 3 while the 64 GB model or even a potential 128GB model was not mentioned here. Previously, both generation iPads have been released in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions while many people were hoping for a 128GB version of the next iPad to be released. We know that Apple is promoting the use of its iCloud service to allow users to save their current online and then stream it whenever they want, but still we don’t see a point of reducing the maximum storage capacity in its latest tablet. However, as we all know that iPad 3 will feature the Retina Display having 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution, which will be capable of handling higher resolution video and app content, so obviously the device will require larger file sizes.
As Apple has scheduled an event on March 7, sources from its upstream supply chain pointed out that the company is expected to launch two iPad 3 models – a 16GB version and 32GB version.
In addition to iPad 3, Apple is also expected to unveil an 8GB iPad 2, allowing the tablet PC series to cover different segments and to defend against Windows 8-based tablet PCs, the sources noted.
This is looking very odd that Apple is going to release iPad 3 in only two capacities because it is a new device and that does not happen usually. So, still, we cannot rely on this report and just a few days left until the final launch of the device, so, we are expecting Apple to surprise us, in a good way of course.
Last but not the least, as you already know that the current 16 GB model of the iPad 2 might be available with a price point of $399 or even lower, but when we talk about an 8GB iPad, then it looks like there is going to more reduction in the price of the device.
