How To Flash ICS To HP TouchPad Using CyanogenMod 9

As you might remember last week we showed you the first video revealed by the developer which showed an HP TouchPad running Android Ice Cream Sandwich and it was expected to release very soon. And only yesterday we brought you with the good news that the ICS port for TouchPad has been publicly released. Now we are bringing you with another treat, today we are going to tell you how to install CyanogenMod 9 on your TouchPad to port Ice Cream Sandwich on it.

Previously, the advance HP TouchPad users were only able to use Android 2.3 Gingerbread on this tablet with CyanogenMod 7 but that Android build is not designed for screen having higher resolution, so the update to Ice Cream Sandwich was needed desperately by millions of the TouchPad owners, most of them bought this tablet when HP put a $99 fire sale on it.

As I told you in our previous report that a lot of features are still missing in this early Alpha build of ICS, which mainly include OMX hardware video acceleration and a few others. So, take a look the following step by step procedure to get your hands on ICS running on a HP TouchPad:

Step 1): Firstly, you will have to install the Palm Novacom driver which is the easiest way to start the installer. You can download the .jar file from Google Code very easily.

Step 2): Now you will have to download the following files for further process:

Step 3): You will have to put ACMEInstaller in the same directory where you have installed the Palm Novacom.

Step 4): Connect your TouchPad with PC and enable USB Mass Storage Mode by entering the USB notification settings.

Step 5): Create a new folder in the explorer of your TouchPad and name it as “cminstall”. Don’t extract the files you downloaded in Step 2 and just copy all of them in this new folder.

Step 6): Now reboot your TouchPad. After booting, press and hold volume button and your screen will go dark, after that quickly hold the volume up button and a large USB icon will appear on your screen.

Step 7): Now open command prompt and type cd: \ and now you will enter the root directory. Now type dir and you will enter in the full list of directories.

Step 8): No go in My Computer and search for cd Program Files and after that type cd Palm, Inc and press enter again.

Step 9): Now we will run ACME Installer. This time in command prompt type: novacom.exe boot mem:// <ACMEInstaller2” and press enter. Now the process will start and after that boot your device into Moboot. Now you will be able to boot into CyanogenMod by tapping the home button. That’s it the process is complete.

If you followed all the step correctly, you will definitely be able to boot into CyanogenMod 9 running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. At this time, this early build is not able to run some important features like the audio playbook is a little messy and microphone and camera are also not working right now. So, we will probably suggest you to wait for a more stable release to enjoy the Ice Cream Sandwich sweetness on your HP TouchPad. But still, you can check this one out as well, and let the Android community know about your experience, which will be a great help.
